This September, global change agents will gather in Vancouver, B.C., for two major events that will map the future of the placemaking movement. These discussions will take place at a critical moment, as Habitat III and COP21 set the stage for decades of dramatic change for cities. Thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates, the New Urban Agenda already emphasizes that strong public spaces are the foundation of this change. Now we need to make it happen, putting theory into practice through placemaking and place-led development.
Public space is located at the intersection of many global issues—from health to sustainability, innovation to equity. The Placemaking Leadership Forum is all about leveraging this convergence. Building on the work of PPS’s Placemaking Leadership Council and the outcomes of the international Future of Places conference series, attendees will develop and share concrete strategies for advancing placemaking locally and globally.
DPI was present at the Placemaking Week in Vancouver to discuss the role of Digital Placemaking in the wider movement while seeking access to potential members and supports of the Digital Placemaking Institute.
